The continued evolution of technology took a major leap during the industrial revolution. This time industry took the lead and what was before farmers began to be industry workers and laborers. The development of the steam engine which was for an easier and faster way to drain water from coal mines evolved by leaps and bounds. From earlier versions that used up too much coal to the development of the locomotive the steam engine changed. The development of the steam engine did not occur due to scientific research but out of necessity for a better method of draining mines and evolved to being able to transport materials, people, fuel, and even money large distances quicker, cheaper, and safer than ever before. With the huge access that the steam engine offered for fuel industry flourished and advances in steel making occurred. With these advances so too did advances in weaponry occur. The development of the breach loading rifle changed the face of warfare and strategy yet again. Now with such more effect methods for killing being used the old strategies changed. Instead of standing face to face for combat strategy and use of terrain was dominant. Having to use cover and a higher need for communication developed on the battlefield and to answer the call was the electromagnet. With the development of the electromagnet the telegraph was able to be developed allowing for quicker communication between distances from high command to field command. With the growing industry the rise in education came and soon the industrial revolution will lead to the merging of scientific thought and developing of technology. Next stop the early 20th century, the present and our future.
