As battles and weapons evolved the introduction of walls for city-states due to the advances of architecture lead to the development of siege weapons such as siege towers and catapults. To understand the impact of these weapons and defenses on military strategy we need to look at one of the greatest military leaders in our history Alexander the Great. With advances on weapons such as extending the length of the Doru to the Sarissa which was an 18 to 20 foot pike, Alexander was able to strengthen and master the phalanx formation. Thanks to his great military strategies and use of terrain he was able to conquer the then known world and wanted to continue exploring the world for he was a great promoter of science and technology. He was able to conquer Tyre by building a land bridge from sediment and trees to reach the island and turned it to a peninsula which still is evident today. After the death of Alexander the Greek influence in the world exploded. Developments in mathematics such as Pythagoras who developed the Pythagorean Theorem of right angles helped in the further development of Architecture for example the Parthenon. The discoveries in astronomy such as Aristarchus who discovered the Earth rotates on its axis and revolves around the sun was able to share his discoveries with the world. Archimedes who used science for more practical uses such as the developments of levers and pulleys and showed that these devices could lift practically any weight were all made possible by the conquests of Alexander who opened the world to Greek society, culture, Science, Technology, and theology.
